As an occasional ultimate player myself, that *is* an awesome catch, although it did touch the ground......

Oh,youre kidding. And I thought it was the ULTIMATE CATCH. Guess Ocho-Cinco retains the title. Cant review it myself. For some reason,I cant run that vid anymore yet ANYTHING else on the net is fine.

Well, as the comments said, it was *ruled* a catch, and clearly he caught it without aid from the ground. Been so long since I've played "serious" ultimate that I'm not sure what the rule on that specifically says.....
We've all seen some ridiculous catches in different sports, but to be truthful, it *is* easier to catch a Frisbee at full extension along the ground than a football, for example....

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect was what one of the commentators mentioned, "the closing speed". If you watch closely, the receiver was literally running almost the opposite direction from the direction of the throw before turning to go "around end". It appears to be not possible that he could get there - and yet he did.........
In any event, it was an awesome catch, and I'll call it just that, a "catch"......

Someone on the frisbee newsgroup said he viewed it frame-by-frame and said it was a catch. Others thought it was down. I went out last night with some of the guys on the other team, in fact, but didn't think to ask them about this catch, which helped knock them out of the tournament.

I know the "kid" who caught it; he's a nice guy, knew him when he went to Harvard.

Yes, it is a lot easier to catch a frisbee, but that is what creates lots of opportunities for plays like this (and the fact that it floats instead of always falling like a football).

Thats amazing jimmyp! Never had a clue you knew em,much less was WITH em after this. Saw in the posts that it was Seattle beaten by Boston. Totally surprising how all those ignorant little brats wrote on there. Think their mommies are calling em now....

AHA! Got another clip of the catch. As you can see here, its a catch. That ends the question. It only touches after he caught it. I had it backwards. Seattle Sockeye BEAT the Boston Chain,as jimmyp knows, but they lost in the final to the San Francisco Revolvers.

Just for the record, the Boston team's name is Ironside (the USS Constitution, nicknamed Ironsides for its invincible defenses during the War of 1812, is still in commission and docked in Charlestown, part of Boston). Some places had it as the semis, but it was in the quarters against Sockeye, from Seattle. Sockeye beat Chain Lightning (from Atlanta) in the semis and lost to Revolver (from the Bay Area) in the finals. No one in the game uses the city name to refer to the team (though sometimes one will say "let's go Boston!" or "we're playing Atlanta next") but when there is publicity, the city name is often added.

I'm helping out with Ironside this year also. The team already has a coach and an assistant coach, so I guess I am a "consultant". I just kinda watch their practices and talk to the coaches about what I see and give the players tips on what they're doing right or wrong. And occasionally say, "Why, when I was your age...."

So all this was in Prague? I think that's what was said on that clip....... Didn't seem right, though.....

Yes, in Prague. There is an old giant (200 000+ seats) stadium there that was used for some of the games. My team in the Masters (33+) division qualified but chose not to go.

The same organization (World Flying Disc Federation) is involved in running all the international championships. The cycle is:
2010: World Club Championships: the top individual club teams from many countries enter
2011: multinational regional championships
2012: World Ultimate and Guts Championship: one team per country (in each division) for any country that has a national organization
2013: World Games: an Olympics-style competition for fringe sports; one coed team for each of six countries
2014-beyond: repeat

There might also be a sanctioned world beach ultimate tournament.

So its IRONSIDE? Sorry bout that, jimmyp. Not sure how I got that Chain in there. Cannot access my link anymore. Hope you gotta see it in slo-mo. Funny how the teams are singular Revolver,Sockeye etc. Not sure why those kids on the ESPN link viewed that single Ultimate highlight on ESPN so negatively but I say they should all have to sit and watch a full day of just Golf,Auto Racing and Gambling(poker) as punishment. Thatll shut em up.
